THE LONG-HAIRED SHEPHERD IS ACTUALLY THE ANCESTOR  OF THE “SHORT-HAIR” SHEPHERD The German Shepherd is a dog whose original function was to herd and work. Because of its unique versatility, most families use the dog as a companion, pet for their children, or as an obedience or show dog. Today, the German Shepherds are also used as service dogs in search and rescue work, tracking, as a seeing eye dog, to herd sheep and cattle, or as a guard dog, and in drug detection.  The basic instinct of the breed lends itself to these multiple uses.

We at Calico Junction Mule Ranch are striving to keep the gene of the long coat ancestors alive, thereby keeping the old-fashioned  conformation with a calm disposition while maintaining the natural protective and working instincts of the dog.  We specialize in breeding and raising exceptional German Shepherds for caring, loving and responsible owners. With our standard, plush or long coat German Shepherd puppies you can be assured of acquiring a healthy, well-socialized family companion that will add many years of happiness to your home.  My German Shepherds are noted for their aloof, gentle, and loving disposition, making them an excellent breed for families with children.  My dogs are not in kennels and are out every day socializing with people and children that come visit us along with socializing with other animals here at the ranch. I have never seen another breed of dog that is so intelligent and versatile as the German shepherd.
